Our Youngest Book Guardians!

This week, our Simple Life Book Guardian project saw our first school and youngest guardians join the drive to provide access to sustainable literacy within their community. The pupils and team at Fernhurst Primary School, West Sussex, join the 21 signed up Simple Life resident Book Guardians, giving over 2000 of our homes the opportunity to share and access free books. Having learned about our project on social media Headteacher, Jennifer Thornton, felt the initiative sat firmly and comfortably alongside the school’s values and goals in relation to sustainability, outdoor learning and reading. We are delighted to have the community at Fernhurst involved. Their specially designed Book Box will be installed close to the school within easy access for all in the community.

Our ESG Director thoroughly enjoyed meeting the pupils, talking about their reading and favourite books, and learning more about the plans for growing a vibrant reading culture in the school, something close to her heart. Niamh shared, “A love of, and confidence engaging with, words and reading is so important to developing a love of learning across all areas of the curriculum. Strong skills, important life skills, in this area sets strong platforms upon which all can thrive, and we are thrilled to be able to support.”

We look forward to hearing news from the pupils, staff and wider community, and sharing further initiatives going forward. We also look forward to installing more of our beautiful, sustainably re-purposed book boxes close to schools where there is interest.
