90 new family homes at Wolvey move a step closer

Countryside, the UK’s leading mixed-tenure developer, and partner Sigma, provider of private rental properties, have started work on 90 high-quality new homes on Wolvey Campus, Rugby, following final planning approvals being granted.

The former industrial site will make way for a range of two-, three- and four-bedroom properties. Of these, 18 will be affordable homes, 40 will be sold on the open market and a further 32 will be available for private rental under Sigma’s Simple Life brand on behalf of The PRS REIT plc, providing high-quality living environments for families in the area.

Known as Kingmakers View, the new residential development will include landscaping, an open space with children’s play area and storm water attenuation areas. Residents will also benefit from great transport links to Coventry, Nuneaton and Leicester.

The local community is not only set to gain much needed new housing, but will also benefit from a contribution of over £145,000, comprising:

  • £2,462 towards education and libraries;
  • £45,568 for healthcare;
  • £22,974 for transport, including road safety, sustainable travel and public rights of way improvements;
  • and £74,365 towards public open spaces and play areas including improvements to Wolvey Rush Pasture Nature Wetland Reserve and sports provision.

The community’s natural world will also benefit with biodiversity improvements, offsetting any losses elsewhere, which will be provided on-site rather than as a contribution.

The site is situated at the edge of the village of Wolvey, which is located to the south of Hinckley, east of Bedworth and southeast of Nuneaton.

Excellent transport links are available with Junction 2 of the M6 located only five miles away to the south of the site and Junction 1 of the M69 located around two miles to the north, providing access to the wider national motorway network. Bedworth station is around 4.5 miles to the west, providing regular rail services to Coventry via the West Coast Main Line.

Phil McHugh, Managing Director, West Midlands, Countryside said: “We are excited to start work with Sigma, transforming this former industrial land into much needed new homes and providing the local community with a host of social and environmental benefits to improve quality of life for everyone in this attractive and well-connected part of the Midlands.”
